A Quick Introduction to Issuezilla

Issuezilla (based on Bugzilla) is an application and database for reporting and tracking bugs. When you enter a bug, Issuezilla assigns it to the appropriate developers and stores it in the database. You, or the developer assigned to the bug, can later modify bug parameters and update bug status.

Note: To use Issuezilla, you need to enable cookies in your browser.

Using Issuezilla

While anyone can browse existing bugs in the Issuezilla bug database, you must be a member of the NetBeans community and have logged in to enter a new bug or modify a bug. To become a member, visit the registration page to enter your user name and email address. When you complete registration, you are emailed a temporary password.

If you are not logged in and try to add a new bug or change an existing one, Issuezilla redirects you to a login page. To continue, enter your user name and password, then click Login. If you forget your password, you can have it emailed to you by entering your email address and clicking New password.

Note that for all Issuezilla pages, Help pages are linked to those fields with underlined names. Click the field name to open the Help page.

  • Entering an Issue
First, click the component for which you want to report a bug. (A component name matches its CVS module name.) The Enter Issue page then displays the detail fields for the bug report, such as platform, subcomponent, priority, and so forth. Required fields are marked with an asterisk (*), and you must complete all required fields (subcomponent, summary, and description) on this page. Click the Submit issue button to submit the bug. The Posting issue page displays and confirms the bug submission. To review or modify your bug data, or attach a file to the report, click the link Go back to ISSUE# nnnnn and the Issue detail page displays.

  • Creating an Attachment
You can add an attachment to the bug report from the Issue details page or the Posting page. From the Posting page, click the Attach a file to this issue link to attach a file. Or, click the Create a new attachment link from the Issue page. Specify the path and name of the file you want to attach, or use the Browse button to select the file. Be sure to add a short description in the Description field and either select the file type from pull-down list or enter a file type in the Other field. Click Submit.

  • Modifying an Issue
You can view and modify details for all bug reports from the Issue details page, which shows detail values for a particular bug. If you have just submitted a new bug report, clicking the link Go back to ISSUE# nnnnn takes you to the Issue details page for that bug. Or, enter a bug number and click the Jump to issue button to open this page. In addition to modifying the bug report fields, you can add other comments in the Additional Comments field. Click Submit to save your changes; click Reset to clear your changes.

There are other links at the bottom of this page. The View Issue Activity link displays the bug history. The Format For Printing link preparse the page for printing. The Format as XML link puts the page in XML format.

  • Querying the Bug Database
Use the Query page to perform keyword searches on the bug database. Choose the search attributes and conditions. Note that if you leave an attribute unselected, then all values for that attribute are valid.

When you are ready to run the query, click the Submit query button. Click an option above the Submit query button to "remember" a particular query as a default query or store the query under a particular name. Stored queries can be invoked later.

When you submit a query, the bugs matching the query conditions are displayed. You can reformat the displayed columns with the Change Columns link. Click a column title to sort the list by that column. Click a bug number in the ID column to display the Issue details page for that bug.

From the query output page you can also change several bugs simultaneously. Click the Change several bugs at once link, which displays a similar page. Mark the bugs you want to change on the left side of the page and fill in the required values. Confim changes by clicking Submit.
